LUCREZIA TORNABUONI

(Florence, 1425 - 28th of March 1482)

She was an Italian poetess, the wife of Piero di Cosimo de’ Medici and mother of Lorenzo the Magnificent. She chose a wife for her son, Clarice Orsini, who for the first time introduced noble blood into the family. The alliance between the Medici and the Orsini families was crucial, especially in helping her grandson Giovanni (the son of Lorenzo and Clarice) to become first a cardinal and then pope Leo X.
